Type experiments

Posted: February 14, 2011 in Graphics

I created some type experiments, to do this i went on Adobe illustrater and selected the type tool. I chose the font imapct n set the size to 150pt, pt means point and is a measure of size. I wanted to have more than one so i duplicated the layers, i did this by using the layers palette. I then created outlines on the text which allows me to edit the font, there is 3 ways of doing this, CTRL + SHIFT + O, Right click-select create outlines, type menu-create outlines. I then zoomed into my text and selected warp tool.

Circus Layouts

Posted: December 6, 2010 in Graphics

In the morning we started to decide how we wanted to lay out our circus posters, we decided to firstly make some marker roughs this gave us an idea of how things would lay out best, we made about 4 marker roughs then as a group we decided which ones would work and which wouldnt. After that we went on the computers and loaded photoshop , we took the marker roughs and transfered them to photoshop. We added boxes to represent Title, Date, Location and times, we also had boxes for the pictures. We changed a few things round untill it looked tidy and the boxes had a good relationship. After that we thought how we could make them better so we made new layouts with boxes going bigger to smaller then smaller to bigger then we made some that looked realy neat and presentable.

Alphabet and Mono Printing

Posted: October 18, 2010 in 2D, 3D, Graphics, Research

Monday 11th October

First thing Monday afternoon I used the pictures of the alphabet and uploaded them one by one into illustrator. I then live traced them, this changes them from a JPG into vector data, and this takes away pixels allowing me to make them bigger without pixelation. Once I did this I exported each letter, I did this by clicking File>Export>Save. I then loaded Photoshop and uploaded the alphabet I created before, I then picked out the letters I needed to spell out super symmetry. I moved them around until I found the position I liked, I made a few different variations.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we were split up into two groups, one group were mono printing and the other half were drawing bugs. Firstly I went to the library to get a book of different bugs. I found a book I liked called hidden jewels, I then photocopied the images I liked. I started drawing the different bugs on different types of paper to see how they turned out, I used sugar paper, normal paper and card. I liked how my drawings turned out on card because it looked like it had been engraved. I tried tracing and free handing to see how each one turned out, I drew about 5 different bugs . In the afternoon we carried on designing our bug pots, I was sticking my drawings into my sketch book and coming up with more different ideas.

Thursday

We carried on researching mixed media artists, picking the ones we liked and putting them onto a word document, after we picked eight different artists we printed our work out. We then started to research artists that used bugs within their work.

Typeography

Monday 4th October

Afternoon

First thing in the afternoon we were sent out for an hour to take pictures of typography around Stockport, we took pictures from bus stops, packs of rubbish, posters, shop signs etc. When we got back we downloaded the pictures from our moodle account and then we went back and uploaded the pictures to Photoshop light room, we did this by making a new catalogue in our u drive, to do this we clicked File>New Catalogue>My Computer>U Drive, we then named it after our last name. After we did that we then clicked import and chose the pictures we took, we had to go through them all and pick which ones we wanted, we did this by clicking P for pick and X for reject . We had a task to see who could find all the letters from the alphabet out of the photos we took, so we had to crop the letters out of the picture using the cropping tool to the left of the screen, after we did that we clicked filter and picked flagged, this got rid of all the photos that we rejected before and this left us with the letters from the alphabet. All we did now was brighten or dim then or make the contrast higher to give an overall better quality picture.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we started to make a mixed media piece, our theme was bugs and we had to choose different papers and colours which stayed with the theme. We used many different methods and materials one of them was the cello tape method this is when u get some cello tape put it on a magazine page and rip it off, if it works the letters print onto the cello tape and you can stick it on your paper, we also used materials such as paper, tissue paper, ink, white paint, dried paint (Brusho), pencil, charcoal and oil pastels. We started off by choosing the colour scheme we wanted, we were then left to fill a page of our own creation filled with different types of materials, drawings and different mark makings.

In the afternoon we had our ceramic teacher, we started designing different pots still in the bug theme, we took different patterns and shapes from bugs and designed pots around them. We came up with different styles, colours and patterns and we then chose our final design and started making different versions of the same pot.

Thursday

We started off in the library, we were researching different mixed media artists and we had to find eight different artists and pieces of work, we copy and pasted the pictures of the mixed media pieces onto a word document we then wrote what the piece was called, the artist, the date and why we liked it.

Later in the afternoon we were designing our bug pots again, we carried on making different variations  and coming up with the final design.
